My dog won't let me bathe her!!?

I have had two dogs in the past and both were wonderful. They didn't like water but stayed in the tub until the bath was over (then they would jump out and spray me with me water but at least they were clean). I have this dog now and she smells really bad that it is getting intolerable. She is in dire need of a bath so I tried to put her in the tub and she gave me hell. Just picking her up was hard enough, she is so reluctant. Then I put her in the tub and she starts slipping (her nails were out and trying to cling to the tub but she couldn't) so she jumped out. I went and put a sheet in the tub so she wouldn't slip and went through hell to get her in the tub again (this time I smeared peanut er on the rim but she took no notice). When I got the shower hose and brought it over her she went BALLISTIC!! She tried to get out but I stood in her way then she eventually pushed through my legs and got out of the bathroom! What do I do? How can I give her a bath? She smells awfull!!!
