Eye makeup with contacts?

So I'm about to get contacts for the first time and I was wondering what alterations i should make to my eye makeup routine while I'm getting used to the contacts. Currently, I wear shadow, mascara, and eyeliner on my waterline. Should I cut out the eyeliner and mascara for awhile so they don't irritate my contacts?
