Is it possible for stretch marks to go away completely if treated while still red?

Well I somehow got stretch marks on my sides this past winter, even though I am a thin, young and athletic male. I rubbed cocoa er and shea er on them constantly for months and saw very minor improvements as they are still very visible and red. So a few weeks ago i started using Mederma scar reducing gel and I have been seeing great results, some of the minor ones seem almost completely gone while the darker ones are still very noticeable but seem to be fading a little bit. Does this mean they might go away completely if i keep treating them while they are still red? I am only 19 and still baffled that i even got stretch marks in the first place.
