Furry Little Social Pets?

I want to get a little furry pet that will socialise with me. I have fish, but they don't do much with me. I don't mind if it's expensive, the only problem is that i live in QLD, Australia, and were not allowed rabbits, hamsters, ferrets and lots of others. If anyone knows any playful pets that you can get in Australia, or even better Queensland. Or any social pets that are reptilian or amphibious would be good. Thx so much :-)
