Baby tears and eye boogers?

my 6 week old has a slight cold (thanks to school teacher dad) and she also started to cry w/ tears just a few days ago. she has some yucky eye boogers and they were a little crusty when she woke up from a nap. from experience, would you say its because her tear ducts are now functioning, or because she has a cold and maybe an eye infection and i should call the doc? thanks!
