Some altmed"skeptics"state they support conventional therapy as alt med failed them, is that likely scenario?

In other words, do you think many conventional medicine patients did in fact first try alternative medicine but were not relieved of their ailments ( so they switched to conventional ) ? Or, is the reverse situation more likely?
